I made this 8-string solid body years before I switched to 7-string. The idea was to combine a guitar scale length with a bass scale length for the bottom two strings. That would allow for the strings to be tuned EAEADGBE with fourth intervals across the bottom 6 strings, so it really would be like a guitar from the top down and like a bass from the bottom up. However, that meant that the bass position markers would be two frets off of the guitar markers. You can see that the fretboard face markers are centered under the top 6 strings, but the side dots are shifted two frets to align with the bottom bass strings.

I managed to learn one or two pieces on this thing and realized that it was just impractical. A few years later I discovered 7-string and have played it exclusively ever since.
